Water Activity and Moisture Content

Water activity (AW) is a measurement of the amount of moisture in the sample freely available to the environment, this has an impact on the ability of microbes such as mold or bacteria to grow on the flower. Percent moisture content (%MC) is a direct measurement of water loss upon drying the sample. Note: Samples with AW greater than 0.65 or %MC greater than 15% fail compliance testing according to OLCC.
